Using a set of four double-pointed needles, cast on twenty four stitches. Divide the stitches on three needles. Join in round. Mark the first stitch with a contrasting thread.
Firs Round: *Knit two stitches. Purl two stitches. Repeat from * around. Repeat the last round of (Knit two stitches. Purl two stitches) ribbing for two inches [five centimeters], increasing by four stitches evenly across the last round. Twenty eight stitches.
Continue in pattern as follows:
First Round: * Slip the next stitch onto the cable needle and hold it at the back of the work, knit the next stitch from the left hand needle then knit stitch from the cable needle. Knit two stitches. Repeat from * around.
Second Round: *Knit two stitches. Purl two stitches. Repeat from * around. Repeat the last two rounds of the pattern two more times.

First Round: Pattern fourteen stitches. Make one stitch by picking up the horizontal loop lying before the next stitch and knitting it into the back of the loop. Continue pattern till the end of the round.

Third Round: Pattern fourteen stitches. Make one stitch by picking up the horizontal loop lying before the next stitch and knitting it into the back of the loop. Knit one stitch.
